HYP-005 · Fish-like 033 as a Proto-Dravidian mīn rebus is a semantic candidate only

Research compilation

Research compilation from a published ICIT-style digitization — not a complete or licensed photographic corpus

Semantic candidate

Under one Proto-Dravidian model, a fish-like sign has been tested against mīn ‘fish’, with a proposed rebus to ‘star’ / celestial category. This is not an accepted reading.

Historical hypothesis in the literature. The platform records it with alternatives, a falsification test, and a non-decipherment warning.

Alternatives

  • The sign is not a fish
  • Fish as icon without language
  • Administrative classifier
  • Different homophone in another family

Falsification test

A held-out set of 033 contexts should be predicted by the celestial/fish reading better than by scrambled semantic labels. It currently is not so tested on verified data.

Limitations

Semantic candidates must never be shown as translations. Visual resemblance is the weakest class of evidence on this platform.
